The Chairman of the International Group for the Study of Gastrointestinal Motility invites Nominations for the

FOURTH

JANSSEN RESEARCH AWARD

FOR 1999

The Janssen Research Foundation, Beerse, Belgium, provides the sum of $25,000
to be distributed as follows: US$2,500 as a personal award, and US$22,500 as an award towards the winners research fund.

               


CRITERIA FOR ELIGIBILITY

The nominee must be less than 50 years on January 1st of the year of the award (1999) and have contributed to scientific progress by conducting research in the arena of gastrointestinal motility that has resulted in a significant advance in knowledge.

The significant and important part of the submitted work should be the result of     investigations conducted by the candidate during the five years preceding the year of awarding, i.e. during the years 1994-1998. Overall, the criterion will be excellence of the discovery and contribution.

NOMINATIONS

Nominations are to be made by two persons, preferably outside the nominee's own institution.

Nominations are to be made in the form of a letter from each sponsor setting forth in detail the significance of the work upon which the nomination is based. This nomination should be accompanied by a memorandum of a maximum of 4 pages, and written by the applicant, presenting and substantiating the importance of the findings.

This memorandum must be submitted together with a copy of relevant unpublished papers and a list of critical published manuscripts relating to the research.

Candidates should also attach a brief curriculum vitae as well as a complete list of their publications. All submissions should be in English.

SELECTION OF AWARDEE

The international Steering Committee of the group for the study of Gastrointestinal Motility will evaluate all nominations, and select the winner, according to a formally structured selection process, which is coordinated by the Chairman of the forthcoming International Symposium on Gastrointestinal Motility.
At this Symposium, to be held in Bruges, Belgium, between September 14th and 17th 1999, the award will be announced and presented.

SUBMISSION AND DEADLINES FOR NOMINATIONS

Nominations must be received at the address given below no later than the 15th March 1999. Nominations received after this date cannot be considered, as the papers for adjudication are to be distributed to the International Steering Committee directly after the closing date for nominations.
